Village Wine Quiz – 17thNovember

We are delighted that we will be having the Wine Quiz on the evening of Saturday 17thNovember at St Thomas Church Hall, Woolton Hill.  The quiz starts at 7.45pm, following the AGM, which begins at 7pm.

For those who have not been before to this popular event, the format of the evening is that there are eight different rounds of wine tasting.  We are grouped on tables and the idea is to try and guess the wine from a choice of three, which are convincingly and eloquently described from the front, and then to estimate the price.

The price is just £10 and tickets are now on sale; please send me an email to reserve your place or, if you already have a group coming, secure your table.   The price of the ticket also includes cheese and bread to eat with the wine which remains at the end of the evening.

East Woodhay Society (EWS) AGM – 17thNovember

Please do come along to the society AGM, which is just before the Wine Quiz on Saturday 17thNovember, starting at 7pm in St Thomas Church Hall.  This is a really important event where we will not only be reviewing 2018 but we will be discussing the charity and events for 2019.  Do let me know if you have an idea of a local charity you think should be our chosen one for next year.   This is your community society and let us know what you would like from EWS.

Also importantly, as we formalised actions around GDPR (data policy link) earlier in the year, the committee reviewed the constitutionto ensure it is appropriately underpinning and reflecting the aims of society.  As the original constitution was put in place when the society was first formed, over time the needs have been refined and therefore it is appropriate to update the constitution.  Consequently changes have been made to the document including: aligning aims, job roles and responsibilitiesof the committee, data policy, risk assessments, financial liability.   Please read the proposed version, which is stored hereon the website and come and vote on whether to accept at the AGM.

At the AGM, we hope to present the money we have raised this year to a representative of The Rosemary Appeal.   As we make our donation via The Good Exchange, The Peter Baker Foundation and Greenham Trust matches every pound we raise and therefore it is doubled.   As a reminder The Rosemary Appeal is raising money in order to provide essential facilities for the local community, including day therapy, chemotherapy, renal dialysis, IV therapies and a CT scanner.

Barn Dance:

Below is a photo from our Village Barn Dance which was held on 29th September.  This was a really enjoyable evening, featuring an excellent live band and Stuart’s calling led us through the steps for each dance.  Although, I am not sure we were always going in the right direction, it was a great fun evening.

Walks, Footpaths and Hedges

Our regular Friday morning walks are going from strength to strength and there were 22 walkers who went on this Friday’s walk from the Church Hall in Woolton Hill.

If you fancy a Friday morning walk, just turn up around 10.20 ready to depart at 10.30.  Each walk is around 3 miles in length and therefore last around an hour. 19th October will be from St Thomas’ Church Hall where we also finish with a welcome coffee. The walks on the 12thand 28thOctober will be from the Rampant Cat.   New walkers are always welcome

Research by Public Health England has shown that walking is the nearest activity to ‘the perfect exercise’ and the walks are built around:

Building Healthy Bodies

Having Healthy Minds

Meeting New People

Preventing Illness
