Recent Event – Crafty Craft Monday 7thMay:

We had a wonderful day on Bank Holiday 7thMay, participating in The Crafty Craft annual raft race.  The weather was wonderful and the race which started at The Dundas Arms, Kintbury and finished at Victoria Park in Newbury was completed in a course record time.  Do take a look at this video on YouTube as well as our website and Facebook pages for more photos and videos. Thanks too to our local magazine, Spectrum for their generous sponsorship. The craft, which Alan Stapleton has designed, built and refined over many years, performed superbly thanks also to everyone who supported us on the day, either by peddling the craft, carrying it between locks or by cheering us on

Parish Council APM

The East Woodhay Parish Council will be holding their Annual Parish Assembly on Monday 21st May 2018 at East Woodhay Village Hall from 7:30pm.  Please do come along and hear what is happening within the Council and there will also be reports from our local Basingstoke & Deane and Hampshire council representatives, Clive Sanders and Tom Thacker respectively.  I will be giving an update on East Woodhay Society and my report is included within the email.

Walks and Footpaths

With the nice weather it is perfect to go for walks in the parish – don’t forget to download the North Wessex Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty flyer from our website.  This contains three walks in the area. http://www.wooltonhill.com/ews_news/?page_id=3557

We have good news that gates have been ordered by the Parish Council to replace the stiles which go across the Hollington Farm land.  I will include details when the work has been completed.

Our regular Friday morning walks, which are around 3 miles in length, start at 10.30am and last around an hour.  1st, 15th and 29nd June are from St Thomas’ Church Hall, where we also finish with a welcome coffee/tea, and 8th and 22nd June from the Rampant Cat.

Other Items to Note:

The annual East Woodhay Fete, organised by St Martin’s Guild, at Malverleys in East End is on Monday 28thMay, starting at 2pm. As usual there is a lot going on at the Fete and you can find out more detail at their website – https://eastwoodhayfete.org.uk.  This also contains photos from previous years.

Do pop along and see our local Neighbourcare team in the ‘community corner’. Find out what they do to support those in need and I know they would love to hear from any driver who could help by driving somebody to a medical appointment, even if you are only available on an occasional basis.   More and more people rely on this excellent service and 451 journeys were made in 2018, which is up from 361 in 2017.

This being the ‘fete season’, please also note that Highclere fete is just under two weeks after East Woodhay, on Saturday 9thJune and as well as the great usual stalls, the Neighbourcare team will also be in attendance.
